Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A remarkable pottery vessel in the form of a figure holding a goblet with both hands. Adorned with black, red, and beige pigment, the figure is shown seated with bulging eyes gazing forward, flanked by a pair of sizable ears. An intricate flared headdress crowns his visage, opening at the top to double as a spout, while an incised pectoral embellishes his chest and shoulders. Size: 7" L x 7.5" W x 14.5" H (17.8 cm x 19 cm x 36.8 cm); 14.6" H (37.1 cm) on included custom stand.
