Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. An impressive pottery figure standing atop delineated legs while holding both arms out from sloped shoulders. Known as a cuchimilco (or star-gazer), the nude figure peers up towards the sky with discoid eyes and gaping jaw. A trio of protruding cones form the overall crown or headpiece, and the light-orange ground is adorned with black pigment in several areas. Size: 3.7" L x 13.25" W x 19.25" H (9.4 cm x 33.7 cm x 48.9 cm); 19.5" H (49.5 cm) on included custom stand.
