Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Native American, southwestern United States, Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi) culture, ca. 1100 to 1300 CE. A fine coil-formed pottery pitcher with a concave base, a hemispherical lower body, a rounded shoulder that tapers to a thick rim, and integral handle terminals. The white-slipped vessel is covered with wide zigzagging lines along the upper body as well as diagonal linear motifs on the top half of the lower body, and the bottom half of the lower body is unadorned. Vessels like this were used for pouring beverages during meal times or for ceremonial purposes. An Anasazi vessel that while sturdy and utilitarian, also exhibits wonderful artistry! Size: 5.125" W x 6.625" H (13 cm x 16.8 cm).

Provenance: ex-Joan Shaw collection, bought in 1971; loaned to the Mesa Verde Museum, 1962-1970; ex-Bill Mitchell collection, Cortez, Colorado, USA, from 1958-1962
