Description:

Africa, Nigeria, Ibibio (Anang), ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved, painted wooden female standing figure with long articulated arms. Though mostly nude with breasts and genitalia revealed, she does wear a triple belt painted red with black and white buckles, a thick necklace with incised brown beads, and black boots. Her expressive visage, presenting deeply-set large eyes, arched brows, a prominent nose, and slightly parted red lips is topped by a centrally-parted coiffure resolving in twisted curls or braids and attached to an excessively long neck. Size: 14.125" H (35.9 cm); 16.375" H (41.6 cm) on included custom stand.
