Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely, tall wooden carving of the bodhisattva Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara), "The Lord Who Gazes Down At The World", a bodhisattva portrayed as both male or female who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Skillfully carved with a tremendous amount of detail, the figure stands, face serene, body draped in elaborately-formed clothing and jewelry. Guanyin wears an elaborate crown with a lotus flower at its center. A pale, warm-tinted color scheme with spring green and flashes of deep blue at the hair and interior of the robe contribute to the immense beauty of this portrayal. Size: 7.7" W x 25.75" H (19.6 cm x 65.4 cm)
