A stunning Talavera style pottery charger painted with brilliant glazes, the central bird motif in a striking cobalt blue glaze surrounded by lively foliage inspired designs painted in hues of cobalt blue, kelly green, burnt sienna, and gold on a milky-white background. While authentic Talavera pottery must be created in Puebla or the nearby communities of Atlixco, Cholula, and Tecali, this piece was created in Oaxaca in Southwestern Mexico, home to three reknowned Mexican painters: Rufino Tamayo, Rodolfo Morales, and Francisco Toledo; with Puebla located just to the northwest. Talavera pottery is a type of majolica pottery that is hand-thrown on the potter's wheel and glazed with natural pigments. Talavera captures the rich history of Spanish Colonial art as it truly embodies its multicultural heritage, drawing upon influences from Egypt, China, Persia, Africa, Moorish Spain, Italy and Mexico.
