Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A fabulous necklace composed of dozens of petite seed beads carved from stones of orange-red and black stone as well as a pair of carved rock crystal spacer beads. From the middle hangs an adorable frog pendant, hand-carved from an iron-oxide-hued stone. The amphibious pendant is defined by bulbous eyes, a rounded nose, and retracted hind legs, with a biconically-drilled suspension hole through the area where the front legs should be. A gold-filled ring clasp and a metal loop cap the terminal ends. A lovely and wearable example of ancient Tairona artistry! Size (necklace): 19.25" L (48.9 cm); size (frog pendant): 0.75" W x 1.2" H (1.9 cm x 3 cm).
