Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A little bird told me that this ocarina makes sweet music! An endearing brownware ocarina depicting a sweet songbird, elaborately decorated with impressed and incised detailing, including four finger holes at the upper end and a blow hole at its tail end. According to Armand Labbe's "Colombia Before Columbus" (1986), "Although Tairona pottery in general is well made and the sculptural lines are well defined, Fine Brown Ware tends to be the best executed and evinces the most detail with respect to incised decoration and distinction of forms." Size: 4.75" L x 4.5" W x 4.125" H (12.1 cm x 11.4 cm x 10.5 cm)
