Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A lovely necklace made from over two dozen hand-carved carnelian and quartz beads. The beads vary in shapes: tubular, barrel, discoid, and bullet-shaped. The carnelian stones present with warm tones of orange, umber, and sienna. The central triangular pendant is a semi-opaque white quartz bead, flanked by two bullet-shaped carnelian beads. The necklace is well balanced in its presentation and strung on a modern cord with a modern bronze button clasp, so that it is both attractive and wearable. Size: 25.5" L (64.8 cm); white pendant bead: 1" L x .65" W (2.5 cm x 1.7 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex- private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950s to 1960s
