Ancient Anatolia / Near East, Turkey or Mesopotamia, Syro-Hittite culture, ca. 3700 to 1500 BCE. A stone idol or votive figure of an abstract ram with a solid bell-shaped body and simple head with curled horns. The stone - perhaps a creamy white marble - is heavily encrusted with mineral deposits - an aged and weathered surface. A ram like this was perhaps created as a votive meant as a temple offering to acquire the protection of the gods. Size: 2" Diameter x 3" H (5.1 cm x 7.6 cm)
