Description:

Ancient Near East, Northern Syria, Syro-Hittite culture, ca. 3000 to 2000 BCE. A hand-built pottery figure with stylized features and traces of tan-hued slip covering the exterior surface. The figure stands upright on a cylindrical body with the arms bent to the sides from slanted shoulders leading to a thick neck. The conical head has a pinched chin, a prominent nose, and applied circular earrings dangling from the ears; perhaps other features were once painted. A finely stylized figure that may have been a worshipped idol or votive piece! Size: 2.5" W x 6" H (6.4 cm x 15.2 cm); 6.75" H (17.1 cm) on included custom stand.
