Description:

Ancient Near East, Syro-Hittite, ca. 2800 to 2000 BCE. A hand-built pottery female fertility idol standing upon fused legs and bearing wide hips and a slender waist. The flat figure has a pair of attenuated arms protruding from her sides, a lightly indented navel beneath a pair of perky breasts, and a tapered neckline. A prominent nose projects from between a pair of pierced eyes in the middle of the face, and several perforations line the coiffure and tab-shaped head ornament. An interesting figurative example from the ancient Near East! Size: 1.75" W x 5.9" H (4.4 cm x 15 cm); 7.8" H (19.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA, collected prior to 2013; ex-private Murray Bridge, South Australia collection
