Ancient Near East, The Levant, Syro-Hittite culture, ca. late 3rd to early 2nd millennium BCE. A charming example of a hand-built pottery ram figure that stands atop a quartet of nubbin legs. The slender creature features a gently corseted body surmounted with a downward-facing tail, a tapered neck, and a conical head bearing a pair of discoid eyes beneath a set of thick horns. A ram like this was perhaps created as a child's toy based on the uncomplicated design, however this may have also been a votive meant as a temple offering. Size: 6" L x 2.125" W x 3" H (15.2 cm x 5.4 cm x 7.6 cm); 5.1" H (13 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private collection of actor Anthony Quinn and his wife Katherine, Bristol, Rhode Island, USA acquired prior to 2000
