Description:

Ancient Near East, Syria, ca. 1500 to 1200 BCE. A tubular terracotta female figure representing the deity Astarte with attenuated arms, circular eyes, recessed ears, and a protruding nose with impressed nostrils. A flared base supports the slender torso. The head is slightly concave on top, with a simple, diagonally-striated headband encircling her wide brow. Examples of Astarte figures typically exhibit concentric-ringed eyes and pinched noses, making this a rare example of this ancient deity. Size: 4.625" H (11.7 cm).
