Description:

Ancient Near East, Syria, Syro-Hittite, ca. early 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A fine cast-copper figure of a characteristically abstract form, standing with delineated legs atop a petite, integral plinth and a slender tang. The figure is nude and holds both arms tight against the chest, with one hand raised to the clavicle, and bony shoulders that taper to a narrow neck. Raised ring-shaped eyes, a small mouth, and a prominent nose compose the minimalist visage, and a side lock of hair drapes down one side of the face. Size: 0.8" W x 3.625" H (2 cm x 9.2 cm); 3.8" H (9.7 cm) on included custom stand.

For a stylistically-similar example, please see "Idols: The Beginning of Abstract Form." Ariadne Galleries, Inc., New York, 1989, p. 102, fig. 105.
