Description:

Ancient Near East, Syria to Northern Iraq, Proto-Literate Period, ca. 3500 to 3000 BCE. A slender cylinder seal bead that is hand-carved from blue-gray steatite with smooth surface textures and intricate linear motifs representative of water. Inscribed across the exterior of the seal is an oscillating linear pattern composed of four registers filled with thin dashes which create a narrow triangular form within the peaks and valleys of the oscillations. Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.4" W x 1.375" H (1 cm x 3.5 cm); 2.7" H (6.9 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Repair to small area of lower periphery with very light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor softening to some incised details with some light encrustations within. Great preservation of linear motifs across exterior.
