Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A standing female figure of the so-called sheepface form, her visage comprised of an extremely pointed and protruding nose, recessed and painted white ovoid eyes, an incised slight smile, horn-like protrusions above openwork ears / ear ornaments, and a tall banded headdress with an applied, striped snake-like applique. She holds an object in her right hand - perhaps an instrument or a blanket - and her body is meticulously adorned with striated and dotted tattoo or body paint motifs outlining her prominent breasts, a skirt with similar linear and dotted patterns, an armband, gloves or hand coverings, and a triple beaded necklace, all in white on a red ground. Size: 5.375" W x 8.625" H (13.7 cm x 21.9 cm)
