Description:

Northern / Eastern Europe, Baltic Vikings / Viking Rus, ca. 12th century CE. Two fabulous cast bronze pennanular brooches (fibulae) of the style known as Mordvinian, with granulated surfaces. This style incorporates the penannanular style and enlarges the terminals, expanding them into long, isosceles triangle plates with their second longest faces lying against each other. Both have a pin wrapped around their rings and raised dots decorating their faces. One has loops projecting from its ends at regular intervals. The loops would have been used to attach decorative chains which would have had dangling beads at their ends. Size of largest: 1.9" W x 2.4" H (4.8 cm x 6.1 cm)
