Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Veracruz region, Classic period, ca. 450 to 650 CE. An exceptional hard stone yoke - ceremonial ballgame implement - section finely carved on the exterior and interior. Exterior boldly depicts a wide-mouthed toad creature with downturned lips, triangular bat-like nose, toque descending in tripartite segments, recessed circular eyes beneath crescent shaped brows. Unusually, the interior is also carved with a similar creature in low relief. Stone is a deep green diorite. Size: 13" W x 5.25" H (33 cm x 13.3 cm); 8" H (20.3 cm) on included custom stand.
