Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A remarkable mold made terracotta lamp with incredibly well done discus iconography depicting two gladiators (hoplomachi) in plumed helmets, loincloths, and greaves. The defeated gladiator kneels on the right as the victor on the left lifts up his round shield. The lamp also features an angular volute nozzle, a grooved shoulder, and the filling hole in the discus between the figures. Size: 4.1" W x 1.05" H (10.4 cm x 2.7 cm)
