Description:

Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A very fine bronze cast handle, probably from an oinochoe wine vessel, with a handle that features a well-cast female mask face with a full-cheeked, cherub-like appearance, scalloped bangs and hair ornaments incised with a stylized geometric motif at the bottom end that would have attached to the vessel's body as well as an animorphic (perhaps a lion above a ram) head at the upper/rim end. This handle, both technically and artistically, is of the highest quality with stunning green patina. Custom, museum-quality stand. Weight: 114.7 grams. Size: 2.5" W x 4.25" H (6.4 cm x 10.8 cm); 4.875" H (12.4 cm) on stand.
