Rome, 1st to 2nd century CE. An ancient bronze oil lamp with a lunate handle, complete with its original lid and chain. Oil lamps such as these would be filled with olive oil, have a wick placed inside of them, and used to light homes, shops, holy places, and many other places in the Roman world. Items like these remind us of the everyday lives of the people who would have used them.Size: 5" L (12.7 cm).
