Pre-Columbian, from Northern Peru, Moche III, ca. 400 to 600 CE. Highly-detailed portrait jar of tremendous realism (almost photographic quality), showing a Moche lord as a youth. Vessels such as this and the more common stirrup jars would follow the most important lords and warriors showing the effects of aging - the only ancient culture known to do such! Great tattooing on face, elaborate headdress and great stoic face! Size: 7" H (17.8 cm)
