Description:

Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. An impressively long and thin free blown glass vial of the early Imperial Period. The silhouette it creates is striking in that from the teardrop shaped rounded lower end it narrows and then widens about 2/3 of the way up only to taper once again and widen ever so slightly at the rim. There is very faint iridescence on the interior but in general the glass is a translucent pale blue-green. A vial like this would have held precious liquids, and probably had some kind of stopper material in it originally. Custom stand. Size: 1" W at widest x 12" H (2.5 cm x 45.4 cm); 12.5" H (31.8 cm) with stand
