Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1500 CE. This is one of the finest woven textiles we have encountered! Grand in scale, exhibiting marvelous weaving technique, and employing an unbelievable color palette, this textile is comprised of a rich sampling of Andean iconography. The composition is organized in rows comprised of staff bearers, birds and monkeys - woven in various shades of red, green, plum, teal, blue, cream, and tawny ochres. Textiles were widely prized within the Inca empire, and they were divided by class. This piece due to its intricate design was likely intended for royal or religious use. Mounted on dark green museum quality linen. Textile itself measures 42-1/2" H x 38" W
