Description:

India, Ca 4th to 6th century CE. A very rare and quite attractive pottery mount in the form of a ram's head. I have yet to find a source that can describe the purposes of such mounts, but it was drilled with a large hole at the lower section and small opening in the back. In some ways it is riminescient of a Palanquin hook from Cambodia. The ram's head is wonderfully detailed with diamond-shaped eyes, long curled horns and expressive face. 5-1/4" H not including the custom stand.

Provenance: Ex-Sarkisian collection acquired in the 1950's to 1960's.

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
