Description:

Ancient Near East, Sumeria or Assyria, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A beautiful marbled stone seal, with pale pink, grey, brown, and purple tones, incised to show two identical mythical chimera figures. These figures look like the human-headed, winged lions whose monumental statues once graced the northwest palace of Ashurnasirpal II at Nimrud. This was a royal symbol, and this seal was probably owned by an elite member of their society, who used it to mark documents like a signature. Comes with roll-out in clay, on a custom stand. Size: 0.35" W x 1.3" H (0.9 cm x 3.3 cm); size of stand: 3.5" W x 1.25" H (8.9 cm x 3.2 cm)
