Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A fine necklace formed from dozens of faience and stone beads that graduate toward the center strung onto a modern strand with a modern lobster claw clasp to be wearable. The beads exhibit an impressive variety of forms from spherical to cruciform to pyramidal and more. Vibrant blue and green glaze adorns the faience beads, with some additionally embellished by incised linear and geometric motifs. A lovely and wearable example of ancient fashion meets modern stylization! Size of largest bead: 0.7" Diameter (1.8 cm); of strand: 21.6" L (54.9 cm)
