Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A stylish necklace of a wearable form composed of dozens of petite faience seed beads in white and blue hues as well as sixteen spherical, vermilion-hued carnelian beads. The center of the necklace displays a pair of fluted faience spherical beads flanking a triangular pendant with densely striated peripheries. Strung in modern times, this is a fabulous example of ancient art meets modern fashion! Size (necklace): 25.25" L (64.1 cm); size of largest bead (blue-green faience pendant): 0.5" W x 0.875" H (1.3 cm x 2.2 cm).

  • Condition: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Faience and carnelian beads are ancient, and stringing is modern. Minor abrasions and nicks to some beads, with fading to striations on three central pendant beads, and light weathering on carnelian beads. Light earthen deposits atop most beads.
