Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, Third Dynasty of Ur, ca. 2112 to 2004 BCE. A hand-built clay tablet or biscuit of an oblong rectangular form with rounded peripheries and convex faces. The faces of the tablet are inscribed with 5 full lines and 1 partial line of cuneiform script - all oriented vertically - as well as a rectangular stamp on one side perhaps provided the name of either the tablet's sender or its intended recipient. Though incomplete, the translation perhaps deals with an accounting of agricultural goods or services provided. Size: 1.5" W x 1.6" H (3.8 cm x 4.1 cm)

  • Condition: Chip to one corner of one face as well as areas of peripheries as shown. Softening to some inscribed cuneiform characters, with petite spalls in a few areas. Nice preservation to remaining cuneiform characters.
