Southwestern USA, New Mexico, late 19th to early 20th century CE. A large and ornate wooden nicho, a stand for a saint, painted with bright colors and floral designs. Rich reds and oranges anchor the color scheme, which also includes blue and white. Inside the nicho is a hand carved wooden figure of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ child on one arm. A beautiful piece of religious folk art. Size: 21.5" W x 23.75" H (54.6 cm x 60.3 cm)

- Condition: Piece is fragile but intact, although very top is removable; Virgin Mary figure was never attached and sits inside the nicho. Much pigment remains.
