China, Ming Dynasty (or possibly earlier), ca 1368 to 1644 CE. Bronze covered ceremonial vessel used to hold wine. Oblong shaped vessel with raised and incised decorations on each side. To the front and rear we see abstract Tao masks with scrolling additions. Base sits on flared and tiered foot, twisted bronze handle wrapped around twin supports. Lid with small turned handle decorated in 6 panels, again with Tao masks and other decorative elements. Lid and base each signed with similar characters. Deep red/green patina throughout interior and exterior. 10" H x 7-1/2" W.
