Description:

Arietites sp. Found in France. Early Jurassic period, 206 to 180 million years ago. With its incredible aesthetic, this large Arietites ammonite from France possesses amazing detail and color patterns. Ammonites of this species are rare in this quality of preservation when in these larger sizes. This very large ancient marine fossil is far more impressive in person than any photo could convey. It features excellent shell structure. These naturally black ammonites are one of the most visually impressive ocean life fossils. The shell color has been enhanced and sealed to bring it back to its original hues that are unfortunately lost during the air chisel preparation. This ammonite was alive in the ancient seas when many of the largest dinosaurs that ever lived walked on the land. Size: 3.7" thick x 14" W x 12.25" H (9.4 cm x 35.6 cm x 31.1 cm)

Provenance: private Florida, USA collection, acquired in 2010 from former private German collection
