Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A striking pendant comprised of ancient Roman glass with an opalescent surface, set in a modern sterling silver setting and strung on a cord as a wearable necklace. The glass shard was originally part of a vessel's base - note the slight outward curve of the bottom and concave (convex on verso) pontil mark from the blowing process. The glass was a pale yellow-green originally but due to the weathering process over the ages, the surface has acquired a captivating iridescence of green and blue! Size of pendant: 2.5" L x 1.75" W (6.4 cm x 4.4 cm); cord: 21" L (53.3 cm); silver quality: 92.5%; weight: 22.4 grams
