Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE. Certain to make heads turn, a stunning necklace presenting a symmetrical, well-balanced design comprised of twenty-four cut garnet beads, twenty 22K+ gold beads of columnar forms with bands of granules at each end and beaded rows running their lengths, and finally a 22K+ gold ancient Roman pendant composed of opposing hemispheres (or shields) with a cluster or granules adorning the lower end and a suspension loop resolving in a granule at either end. While many ancient Roman jewelry designs resembled those of the Greeks and the Egyptians, the hemispheric motif was purely a Roman creation. A beautiful piece of wearable art! 24.9 grams Size: 16" L (40.6 cm) plus a .375" L (1 cm) pendant; 17.375" L (44.1 cm) with pendant and clasp
