Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE; Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec to Proto-Maya culture, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE; Maya culture, Early to Late Classic Period, ca. 250 to 900 CE. A collection of 23 large beads and a petite mace head, each hand pecked, polished, and drilled for suspension. Most of the beads are a finely mottled gray and pale green hues and have a slight reflective sheen to their silky-smooth surface. All are strung in modern times on a cotton cord - with the mace at the center, these could be made wearable with a strong wire, a perfect assortment for jewelers to restring together or as separate pendants! Size (strand doubled): 28" L (71.1 cm); (mace bead): 1.25" L x 1" W (3.2 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
