Description:

Spain or Mexico, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 18th century CE. A beautifully cast crucifix pendant shaped in three pieces from 92.4% silver with a recessed lower body, a hinged front panel, and a rigid suspension loop through the perforated top tab. Incised on the frontal panel are images of the crown of thorns worn by Jesus during the crucifixion, a pair of enclosed diamonds flanking a flaming heart, and an olive branch beneath a drop of blood. The verso has a trio of projecting crystalline structures above another blood droplet, and the monogram "IHS" beneath a slender crucifix. Size: 1.8" W x 3.25" H (4.6 cm x 8.3 cm); quality of silver: 92.4%; total weight: 41.8 grams.

  • Condition: Wearable with a necklace cord. Minor indentations to front panel and body, with minor softening to some incised details, otherwise intact and very good. Front panel still opens smoothly. Nice patina throughout.
