Ancient Greece, South Italy, Apulian, ca. 4th century BCE. A fine lekythos with its lovely form, comprised of an oval-shaped body, a long narrow neck, and small, deep mouth, traditionally used as an oil vessel. This is a lovely example of the early deianeira lekythos dating back to the 6th century BCE, with a profile visage of an Apulian Lady of Fashion and a large palmette adorning the surface. Vibrant black and red pigments. Size: 2-1/2"W (6.35 cm) x 4-3/8"H (11.11 cm). Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired at auction or local gallery between 1982 and 1994.
