Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 100 to 600 CE. A beautiful anthropomorphic celt pendant of a petite size which is hand-carved from sage-hued jadeite. The pendant has a slender body and a tapered base, wide arms folded across the tapering chest, and a lateral suspension hole which is biconically-drilled through the neck. The abstract visage is defined by a pair of drilled eyes, a triangular nose and mouth enclosing a slit-form mouth, and a pronged headdress decorated with a trio of horizontal striations. With meticulously string-cut details and a highly-polished surface, this is a wonderful example of ancient Costa Rican artistry! Size: 0.7" W x 2.8" H (1.8 cm x 7.1 cm).
