Russia, ca. 1850 CE. Small but quite exceptional brass "traveing" icon. Left side depicts the Deesis group, the representation of Christ in Majesty or Christ Pantocrator: enthroned, carrying a book, and flanked by the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist. On the left are the Deesis cycle with St. John the Baptist, archangel Gabriel and St. Paul. All are flanked by deep blue, turquoise blue and white enamel with cyrillic script above each person. Size: 4.25" W x 2.375" H (10.8 cm x 6 cm)
