Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast (probably southern Alaska), Tlingit people, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A lovely basket comprised of tightly-woven reeds and grass fibers to form a cylindrical container. The vessel boasts a circular lid with a register of abstract zoomorphic figures coursing around the interior, and a second register of two longboats decorate the inside of the main vessel. The motifs were once visible along the exterior of both lid and body, though their colors have faded over time. The base of the basket is reinforced with thick brown strands which are woven in a lattice pattern. Size (w/ lid): 3.75" W x 2.25" H (9.5 cm x 5.7 cm).
