Description:

North America, United States, American Indian War, ca. late 19th century CE. A fine collection of memorabilia from the American Indian War: 3 brass infantry pins and 3 lead bullets. Each infantry pin is in the form of 2 crossed flintlock muskets. The most petite would have been worn on the cap of enlisted infantry, while the 2 larger were featured on the collars, hence why they include the "8L" and "2D" designating the regiment and company of the soldier. A pair of hallmarks resembling shields can be found on the verso of the most petite pin, while the "2D" pin displays a mark that reads "PAT. AP LD FOR." Alternatively, the lead bullets all present cylindrical bodies and 1 to 3 grooves along their lower halves. Both the largest and the most petite exhibit pointed heads, contrasting the mid-size projectile whose head is rounded. Size of largest ("8L" pin): 2.4" W x 1.3" H (6.1 cm x 3.3 cm); Size of case: 5.3" W x 6.2" H (13.5 cm x 15.7 cm)

Though the largest bullet is hollow, the other 2 are solid with the most petite sitting upon a flat base and the mid-size weapon retaining its original casting tang.
