Description:

Native American, Central Plains, probably Sioux, ca. 1920s CE. An exceptional Sioux beaded wood and leather horse saddle, featuring patriotic representations of the American flag, with intersecting pairs of Old Glory on the horns and forks, as well as repeated smaller flags throughout. In addition, numerous depictions of the Great Seal of the United States comprised of red and white stripes but with a trio of flower blooms rather than the traditional stars against metallic grey ground adorn the saddle. Size: 25.25" L x 12.5" W x 13.25" H (64.1 cm x 31.8 cm x 33.7 cm)

Additional beaded flaps lined with a hide fringe adorn the front and back ends of the saddle, allow for a sense of movement and luxury. A very unusual Native American piece, surprising for its patriotic American iconography and quite impressive for its artistry and technique.
