Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manteno culture, ca. 1000 CE. A lovely collar necklace comprised of 10 ancient spindle whorl beads - 8 spherical and 2 conical - each handmade from pottery with incised details and 23 modern silver beads. Boasting hues of black and grey, the exterior surfaces of the beads are incised with intricate zoomorphic imagery and filled with white pigment. The elaborate beads are accompanied by 23 modern silver and 40 brass beads of tubular, discoid, and melon forms, as well as modern spherical sparkle beads, all strung on a modern wire that hooks together in the back to be wearable. Size (of largest whorl bead): 0.5" W x 0.4" H (1.3 cm x 1 cm); Size (of wire): 18" L (45.7 cm)
