Description:

Zavel Silber (American, born in Latvia, b. 1910), etching of a rabbi in front of synagogue, an artist's proof, ca. mid 20th century CE. Signed in pencil on lower right. "a/p" (artist proof) in pencil on lower left. A very strong, original etching - the artist's proof presenting a portrait of a bearded man wearing a hat, perhaps a rabbi, before a synagogue detailed with a large star of David above the entrance as well as another adorning the lunette window. A wonderful piece for anyone who appreciated Zavel's skilled hand and collects Judaica. Set in a dove grey mat. Size: 7" L x 6" W (17.8 cm x 15.2 cm); 14" L x 12" W (35.6 cm x 30.5 cm) matted

An artist's proof is an image made by the artist himself or for the artist by a printer. Artist's proofs are more valuable than prints of a signed and numbered limited edition, because the number of artist's proofs is smaller and because they are closer to the artist's hand.
