Description:

Ruben Lozano Lucero (Mata Ortiz, active 20th to 21st century). Polished blackware jar, n.d. Signed on underside of base. A stunning pottery jar of voluminous form with a narrow base and impressively thin walls that spread out to a broad rounded shoulder and then into an annular rim above a deep basin, all enveloped in a graphite-hued glaze. The exterior is impressively stone polished to a reflective surface making the dark colored glaze resemble gunmetal. Ruben Lozano Lucero is featured in The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz pg.111: "...his award-winning style of perfectly formed, thin, black balloons of graphite clay, highly polished... His pieces are perfections of form." The combination of the simplistic yet elegant form and the metallic, mirror-like surface create a truly breathtaking presentation. Size: 10" Diameter x 8.4" H (25.4 cm x 21.3 cm)
