Description:

East Asia, Japan, pre-World War II to World War II period, ca. 1934 to 1945 CE. A fine utility knife known as a tanto with a forged-steel, single-edged blade fitted inside a wooden hilt. Beneath the handle is a slender brass blade cap that covers the top of the blade's tang and helps create a snug fit inside of the hand-carved wooden sheath. The blade features a slightly curved profile with a wavy forging pattern just above the edge as well as a deep fuller that courses along nearly the entire spine. Removing the wooden hilt reveals two kanji characters that comprise a signature. Size (w/ sheath): 1.6" W x 21.2" H (4.1 cm x 53.8 cm); (blade): 12.8" L (32.5 cm)
