Hunt Slonem (American, b. 1951), original color silkscreen on Arches paper, untitled, 1980. Signed and dated in pencil on the lower right. Numbered 3/250 in pencil on lower left. A vibrant serigraph by an American contemporary artist who is best known for his Neo-Expressionist works and his depictions of stunning tropical birds. The bird imagery is oftentimes inspired by his own aviary, which tends between 30 and more than 100 birds of many species at any point in time. This piece features a duck or goose in profile, the coats of two wild felines, an Egyptian mask, as well as a beautiful ensemble of tropical flowers. Slonem studied at Tulane University and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. His works can be found in the permanent collections of 250 museums around the world, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Miro Foundation, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Size: 30" W x 22" H (76.2 cm x 55.9 cm)
