European or American, oil on canvas board, ca. 1950s - signed "L. Poland" on lower right. A vintage painting of a sad clown (blanc) as opposed to a happy clown (auguste), depicted bust-length and presenting a rather somber expression comprised of soul searching eyes, thick black brows, a red nose, and unsmiling red lips with characteristically white skin, shaggy red hair, and a wide white collar. A wonderful piece - particularly for any fan of pantomime, clowns, circuses, and all things vintage - set in an ornately carved frame! Size of painting: 10" L x 8" W (25.4 cm x 20.3 cm) Size of frame: 16.5" L x 14.5" W (41.9 cm x 36.8 cm)
