Description:

North America, United States, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE, signed "MC" by sculptor M.C. Carolyn. A lovely standing bear figure which is hand-carved from a mottled green steatite (also called soap stone) with light and dark inclusions. The bear, formed in a classic Inuit style, stands on four enormous paws in a striding motion with a powerful body. One front paw is turned around so the carved toes point towards the back feet. The stocky head boasts petite eyes, a powerful snout with delineated nostrils, wide, rounded cheeks, and a gaping mouth in which a creamy-yellow stone fish is held. A signature with "MC" is carved into the belly of this beautiful figure. Size: 4.3" L x 2" W x 2.625" H (10.9 cm x 5.1 cm x 6.7 cm).
